Please follow the rules for safe driving as described here on the website of the Queensland Department of Transport.
Some Rules and Facts:
- Always wear a seatbelt. Fines are high if you don't.
- Always drive on the left hand side of the street. If you are on a 2lane street, you use the overtaking lane only in case you want to overtake.
- Speed limit in town: 50km/hour
- Speed limit on highways: 100km/hour
- Always take a valid driver licence with you.
- Obey all traffic signals and signage.
- Stick to the rules and you'll enjoy your holiday!
Recommendations:
- Plan your journey thoroughly.
- Don't make more than 250km per day.
- Have a lot of water on board.
- Be sure you take the right sort of fuel and a sufficient amount of fuel with you.
- Have a map on board.
- Don't drive during dusk or dawn. Animals use these times of the day to wander around or hunt.
Make sure you are prepared to stop and rest.
- Avoid driving when the sun raises or sets down in these areas:
- Rockhampton (Tropic of Capricorn)
- Kangaroo Island (next to Adelaide)
